Results WP2 - Capacity Building

Overview about energy consumption in the participating regions

Due to a lack of energy data in terms of tourism in Europe one of the important task within SETCOM project was to realise a data collection with the aim to get an overview about energy consumption in the tourism facilities and to gain knowledge about the CO2 emission caused by the regional tourism  in the participating countries.
For that reason a questionnaire had been worked out in order to interview the regional tourism facilities about their energy consumption data. Although the project team had difficulties to get a wide range of answers about energy data due to different reasons, e.g. European economic crisis or few knowledge about about the own energy consumption, the results of the data collection so far shall be presented here. The regional analysis carried out in each participating community can give a short insight in the energetic situation of the respective partner countries.
The presented analysis can be seen as a good starting point to to develop concrete targets saying how to reduce energy consumption and CO2 emission in the participating communities. These targets will be named in the heart of the project, the Energy Action Plan.

WP5 Behaviour Campaigns

Campaigns to sensitize tourists and employees of tourism industry

Tourists often do not think about how much energy they consume during their holidays and sometimes it is even more than at home. For that reason SETCOM wants to address tourists directly and make them aware about their high energy consumption. A strategy needs to be worked out to sensitize tourists for energy topics without setting up to many rules that tourists have to follow during their holidays.

Also employees of tourism companies often spread water and energy when they are at work.
Maybe because they are not aware of their behaviour or simply because they are not at home and do not have to pay the energy bills.Who knows!
Within SETCOM these employees should be sensitized too for energy saving. There are many ways how to address them! A good way is always to involve them into energy saving measures of the company so that they feel part of the companie’s philosophy.

The SETCOM team has worked out different ideas to address both target groups – tourists and employees of tourism industry – and to show them how energy saving is possible. Please have a look at the summary of all the concepts in the various SETCOM partner countries! Maybe you can find some ideas for your own country too!

Energy Tools

Energy Management Systems (EMS) are software tools that give the owners of tourism companies the possibilty to control their daily energy consumption and to reduce it remarkable. The project SETCOM wants to address tourism companies as the main target group and inform them about useful tools to save energy and to raise energy efficiency in their facilities. Here you can find an overview about EMS developed in Germany that are suitable for all kinds of tourism facilities with a high energy consumption.
